The virtual world brings in a new breed of criminals

With every passing day, the fields of Internet of Things and artificial intelligence see tremendous growth. It won't be long before we are entirely dependent on technology for day-to-day workings. An estimated 2.3 billion connected things will be used in smart cities this year, according to Gartner, Inc, says this article in Harvard Business Review .

While this possibility seems exciting, what could it mean in terms of crime and safety? A hacker, from their tiny room, could shut down half a city if everything is 'plugged in'! On April 8, hackers set off 156 emergency sirens in Dallas, Texas, disrupting residents and overwhelming 911 operators throughout the day. And this is just the beginning.
