Universities ban smartwatches during exams

Certain Australian unis have restricted use of device

A number of universities in Australia are taking steps to keep smartwatches out of examination to prevent students from dialing-up answers through the watch, according to a report by Mashable.

Australia's University of New South Wales and La Trobe University have restricted the device during exams, the report said.

La Trobe University recently issued a notice to students that all watches irrespective of type and make needs to be placed under students' chairs in a clear bag, says Mashable.

To overcome the cheating issue, many British universities as well have banned watches during all kinds of entrance exams. In the US, Graduate Record Examination takers cannot use digital watches or smartwatches during the exam.

Educators have been raising concerns about intrusion of technology during important tests, Mashable added.
