Virgin Atlantic to cut 500 jobs

News comes months after the company declared profits worth £14.4 million for 2014

Virgin Atlantic is trimming its managerial and support staff jobs by 500, according to BBC. The report comes months after the airline reported a profit of £14.4 million for 2014, after incurring loses for three years.

The move aims at creating a more efficient, simpler managerial structure with fewer layers. The cuts will be made through re-deployment and redundancies, the broadcasting company reported.

Frontline staff safe

The job cuts will not affect frontline staff that deals with customers, the report added. The airline currently employs about 9,000 people. Earlier, Virgin Atlantic had scrapped routes that were not profitable.
