Wages fall for college grads in the US

Average has dropped by 2.5 per cent

The fallout the recession generated on the entry-level labor market is one hangover college students can't shake after the graduation party.

After recession made a big dent on the entry-level job market in the US, the country's labour market is yet to shake off the after effects. Where the wages remain stagnant in the US, it has slid for young workers, reported workforce between the age of 21 and 24, who graduated in 2000 and entered the workforce with completing grad school used to earn an average of $18.41 each hour.

Now, the average has dropped by 2.5 per cent to $17.94, according to the NBC report.

The situation is worse when it comes to women with female grads earning $16.56 each hour. It is $3 less than their male counterparts, almost 19 per cent less.

The lower wages and increasing education debt may impact long term saving trends for these people by delaying theur saving for retirement says the experts.

NBC reported, about 7 students in 10 students graduated with student loans in 2013.
