An exciting second day at IIM-K Management festival

Backwaters 2017 saw competitions, quizzes, treasure hunts and a performance by Biswa Kalyan Rath

IIM Kozhikode’s annual management festival — Backwaters 2017 — continued with great fervour on day two. The three-day festival saw a slew of competitions and celebrations, that students took part in with great enthusiasm.

The day was kicked-off with the final round of Chennai Super Kings Re-Launch Case Competition. Apart from the participants, spectators thronged the event too, eager to know about the business aspect of India’s beloved sport.

One of the finalists of the competition said, “It was a great opportunity to study the world of sports franchisee through such an iconic brand,” highlighting the usefulness of the judges’ feedback.

Other flagship events, Avatar — the hunt for the future CEO — and Shiksha — IIM-K’s CSR initiative — are spread across three days. While Avatar tested students’ mettle on a wide range of skills including domain knowledge in marketing, finance, and soft skills like public speaking, Shiksha helped students explore the future career paths they could consider.

The Model United Nations continued their analysis of critical global issues, including Nuclear Disarmament and International Security, and Rehabilitation and Integration of Refugees into Europe, through the insightful inputs provided by delegates.

A fun mix

The festival had a mix of activities that kept everyone on their toes, with Bizzathlon puzzling the minds of the quizzers, Treasure Hunt making people dash around the campus, and a highly interactive workshop by Mad over Marketing — the internet sensation dedicated to revealing the creative strategies of modern day marketing.

The day ended on a high note with a rib tickling performance by Biswa Kalyan Rath, who had everyone falling off their seats laughing.

An attendee of Backwaters 2017 from SIBM Pune said, “My experience so far has been amazing. The organising team has been very accommodative and I would definitely recommend coming to IIM-K Backwaters to my juniors next year.”

The final day will see other memorable activities, such as competitions (like Strategem) and Avatar, Josh Talks sharing their inspiring stories, and Anand Bhaskar Collective — a rock fusion band.
