BCG, Amazon top recruiters at IIMA

Internet and e-commerce start-ups also make significant hires

The Boston Consulting Group and e-commerce giant Amazon have emerged as top summer recruiters at IIM Ahmedabad (IIMA) with 19 and 18 internship offers respectively. Aditya Birla Group made 17 offers in the general management domain.

Goldman Sachs was the largest recruiter, having picked 11 students for internships in financial markets, investment banking and financial strategy.

More than 110 firms participated in the summer placement process in 2015. Some of the other top offer makers with double digit offers include Accenture Strategy, Bain & Co., Flipkart (10 offers), and McKinsey & Co.

Tata Administrative Services and Mahindra & Mahindra made 8 offers each, and Snapdeal also offered 6 internships. FMCG majors HUL and Johnson & Johnson made 6 offers each in the sales and marketing domain.

E-commerce recruiters

Internet and e-commerce start-ups made a beeline for the at the B-School campus to participate in the summer placements programme.

The institute said e-commerce players CarDekho, Flipkart, Ola Cabs, OYO Rooms, Rocket Internet, Snapdeal and Xiaomi besides Amazon, and Microsoft from the internet and technology space made offers to students from the 2017-Class of the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management at IIM Ahmedabad.

At the end of the summer placement process spread over three clusters, students got offers from over 110 firms having operations across 11 sectors. About 80 Dream applications were made this year, where students got the flexibility to choose and build their careers in the sectors of their preference.

This year, 17 students opted out of the summer placement process to work on their own ventures under the mentorship of the Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE), IIM Ahmedabad.

The Summer Placement for 2017 batch of PGP-FABM (Post-Graduate Programme in Food & Agribusiness Management) with 46 students was completed on the first day with 30 companies participating in the process. Four students opted out of the placement process to pursue their own business idea.

Regulars too were there

While some of the regular recruiters like ABT Foods, Godrej Agrovet, Monsanto, Nestle, Rabo Bank, Syngenta and Tafe offered roles to students, several new recruiters like ADM, ConAgra Foods, Dow, Future Group, General Mills, Hector Beverages, Proctor & Gamble were also present.

Satish Deodhar, Chairperson of Placement Committee, IIM Ahmedabad, said, “Change of programme name and curriculum this year from ABM to FABM was overdue as it underlined the focus, industry and IIM-A's attach to agriculture in general, and food business in particular. And it showed when about 11 new global food firms visited the campus this time around.”
