BITS Pilani concludes this year’s Mélange

Prominent players take centre stage at theatre festival

The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani recently concluded its annual theatre festival Mélange. The event boasted performances by theatre and film veterans Seems Biswas and Raghuvir Yadav.

National Award-winning actor Biswas explored Streer Patra , one of late Bengali writer Rabindranath Tagore’s most famous stories, releasing it from a mere feminist reading and capturing a documentation of womanhood in all its myriad shades.

Bollywood actor-director Raghuvir Yadav presented the play Piano on the final day of the festival. The play, through the use of humour, highlights contemporary social problems. Set in the seventies, it is about two lonely people in Bombay. The lead engages in lengthy telephonic conversations with a lady who is trying to sell a piano. He takes on different characters and wondrously showcases the plight of an individual who has lived with loneliness all his life.

The festival was concluded by an exotic musical performance by the Sapera group of Rajasthan.
