BSE Institute hosts financial olympiad

Over 108 students compete in the finale in Mumbai

BSE Institute Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the BSE, hosted the finale of its flagship international Financial Olympiad at the BSE International Convention Hall in Mumbai on April 8. The Olympiad is an initiative to extend financial literacy to the school level. Over 108 students competed in the finale. This year, around 15,000 students across India participated in the national level competition, which was spread over six months.

The first round of the Olympiad covered students from 544 schools from 150 cities and 18 states in India out of which 875 students (after appearing for an online test) qualified for the 2nd round and 108 students were selected for the finale in Mumbai. The BSE International Finance Olympiad also awarded nine principals and 27 teachers from various schools who had participated for the Olympiad.

The event was graced by the presence of Shaina NC, BJP spokesperson, fashion designer and social worker; Dipti Neelakantan, Group Chief Operating Officer at JM Financial; and Auxiliary Bishop Savio Dominic Fernandes, who is currently serving as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Bombay Archdiocese.

Ambarish Datta, Managing Director and CEO of the BSE Institute said “I’m overwhelmed by the participation we have been getting year on year. BSE International Financial Olympiad is one of the biggest financial Olympiad in the country. It is an initiative to extend financial literacy at school level through its flagship innovative and educative national level financial quiz competition. I’m glad that this year we had more than 22 girl students who made it till the final round and also bagged the prizes. We constantly strive to encourage participation from girls thereby encouraging the government’s initiative of educating the girl child. I’m positive that this event will transform the participating students into financially literate adults of the next generation.”

Sandeep Ahlawat, Managing Trustee of Eduheal Foundation said, “The students who reached the finale will take back a ‘wow’ experience of participating in the biggest financial Olympiad of the country and coming to the fastest stock exchange in the world. Besides students, the annual prize distribution function felicitates the principals and teachers who make all this possible.”

The winners from Mumbai are Shubh Shah and Ameya Parekh (from Grade 9), Bhoomi Yagnik (from Grade 10) and Konita Sreya (from Grade 12).
