BSE Institute Ltd announces launch of new zone for start-ups

Zone set up in collaboration with Ryerson Futures Inc, Toronto

BSE Institute Ltd announced the launch of a new start-up accelerator housed in the iconic PJ Towers, the home of the BSE.

The accelerator has been setup as a technology based incubator under the National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. Zone Start-ups India is the only stand-alone accelerator program in India to be accredited this support.

This accelerator is setup by BSE Institute in collaboration with Ryerson Futures Inc (Toronto) the technical arm of Ryerson University from Ontario, Canada. The key objectives of Zone Start-ups India are to focus on scalable, technology start-ups (both enterprise and consumer) and to recreate in India, the successful model of the Digital Media Zone (DMZ), Ryerson's flagship program in Toronto which has been operational since 2010 and has incubated over 150 start-ups.

Speaking on this occasion, Ambarish Datta, Managing Director and CEO, BSE Institute said, “At the BSE Institute, we are happy to participate in the Start-up India initiative through this venture. This is a true nation building activity, since in addition to providing a platform for budding start-ups, we also contribute to job creation through the hundreds of jobs and internships at the start-ups that we are mentoring in our accelerator. “

With India becoming the youngest nation in the world, job generation is a critical priority and the start-ups emerging from this zone will support job creation. The start-up zone will also be a major innovation hub that will evolve technology based solutions to address a gamut of business challenges.

The occasion was graced by a ministerial delegation of Kathleen Wynne, 25th Premier of Ontario. The delegation included Michael Chan, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade, Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure, and Dipika Damerla, Associate Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.
