‘Continue learning and be adaptable to change’

CEO of Standard Chartered Global Business Services spoke at IIM-T’s sixth foundation day

IIM Tiruchirappalli (IIM-T), the 11 th Indian Institute of Management, celebrated its sixth foundation day on the January 4.

Delivering the welcome address, Dr Prafulla Agnihotri, Director of the institute, spoke at length about the state-of-the-art campus and its facilities. Mentioning that it would be a benchmark for other management institutes, he complimented the faculty at IIM-T and the various research and journal publications that work on.

Kwan Chee Sun, chief executive officer of Standard Chartered Global Business Services, India spoke about the massive changes and disruptions taking place in the world. He exhorted students to continue learning and be adaptable to change, stressing on the fact that it is important to develop cross-cultural intelligence and never lose sight of integrity, values and conduct.

Usha Ananthasubramanian, managing director and chief executive officer of Punjab National Bank, who was also the guest of honour, touched upon about the importance of innovation in today’s world. “Keen observation, fertile imagination and the ability to learn from failure are mainstays of innovation,” she said, adding that it is necessary to move into newer territories instead of competing in already existing spaces.

Social responsibility is a core value inculcated at the institute and students engage in a “Make a difference” (MAD) project, that aids different strata of the society. One of the teams, comprising final year students J S Ambady, Ashutosh Kumar, Rakesh Kumar M, SVDR Sankar Kovvali, Supreme Koustuv Bhoi and Kush Maloo, was awarded a certificate of appreciation for their project that consisted of assisting a Day Care Centre for children with special needs.

The day came to a close with a cultural programme organised by SPIC MACAY — IIM Trichy Chapter. ‘Kalyanasougandhikam’, a dance recital, was performed by renowned Kathakali artist, Thulasi Kumar S. Dr.Mini Shaji Thomas, director of NIT Trichy and Professor V Gopal, dean accounts and administration of IIM-T were also present.
