Educationist and Hero MotorCorp MD to be honoured by XLRI

Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal to be conferred upon Sunil Kant Munjal at annual convocation ceremony

The Xavier School of Management (XLRI) will be conferring its prestigious Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial and Social Peace upon Hero MotorCorp Managing Director and Hero Corporate Services Chairman Sunil Kant Munjal. The award will be presented to Munjal at the institute’s 60th annual convocation. Munjal is also scheduled to deliver the convocation address at the event on April 2.

About the awardee

“Sunil Kant Munjal is a distinguished educationist. He is the guiding force behind many educational institutions in the country and has been playing a key role in helping create a unique higher education initiative. Munjal has not only made noteworthy contributions to business and industry, but he has also been instrumental in making a significant positive impact on various socio-economic reforms of India,” said Fr. E Abraham SJ, Director of XLRI.

Munjal is on the board of several companies including Hero Management Services Ltd, Hero InvestCorp Ltd, Coca Cola India Advisory Board, Bharti Foundation and UK India Advisory Board. A former president of CII, Munjal served as a member of the Narasimham Committee, which was set up in the 1990s to chart a course for banking and financial sector reforms in India. Munjal is also a distinguished educationist. He is the guiding force behind the BML Munjal University, and is on the board of several educational institutions, to name a few: Indian School of Business at Hyderabad and Mohali, IIT Ropar, University of Tokyo and UK India Business Council.

Munjal is currently a member of the Prime Minister’s Council on Trade and Industry. He has also been involved in the preparation of several socio-economic reports in the fields of skill development, vocational training, CSR and tribal development.

About the award

The Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial and Social Peace was instituted by XLRI in 1966, in honour of the late Sir Jehangir Ghandy, former Chairman of the Board of Governors at XLRI. The medal is awarded to heroic leaders who have contributed towards the growth of their respective organisations, and also impacted the growth of the nation in a significant manner. The medal was instituted by XLRI in gratitude for Sir Jehangir Ghandy’s yeoman contribution to XLRI and to society at large.

Previous awardees include eminent business leaders such as N R Narayana Murthy, Chairman Emeritus and Chief Mentor, Infosys Technologies, Shiv Nadar, Founder and Chairman, HCL and Shiv Nadar Foundation, Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairman, State Bank of India and Mallika Srinivasan, Chairman and CEO, TAFE (Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited).
