IIM Tiruchirappalli celebrates Daan Utsav

Festival of giving celebrated annually since 2009

Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli (IIM-T) celebrated Daan Utsav, also known as Joy of Giving Week, India’s festival of giving from October 2 to October 8. It was organised by the Elixir club, the social responsibility club of IIMT. It has been celebrated annually since 2009, and brings together Indians from all walks of life.

Events during the celebrations

IIM-T kickstarted the celebrations in the campus with the initial event ‘Shram Daan’, a campus clean-up programme to commemorate the first anniversary of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’. A clothes donation drive was also organised for the event Vastra Daan which took place on October 3. The clothes were sent to Goonj Foundation, an NGO which recycles discarded clothes and household goods into useful products for the poor.

On October 4, a donation drive titled Pustak Daan was held to donate books, newspapers, toys, one-side used papers, bags and stationery items like pens and pencils.

To honour the support staff of the college, a traditional banana leaf lunch was organised to celebrate Bhojan Daan on October 5. Students actively prepared various dishes and served lunch to the support staff.

During the event of Dhan Daan, a cricket match was organised on October 6 between the students and the faculty to raise money for donation to a social cause.

Student from the institute visited a government school in Thuvakudi on the day of Vidya Daan on October 7, to give consultation to 10th and 12th Grade students about career options after they finish school.

An eye donation awareness camp was organised on Netra Daan on October 8, in association with the Mahatma Eye Hospital, to emphasise the importance of eye pledging. Nancy, the Chief Medical Officer, and Subbraatanu Chakraborthy, an ophthalmologist at Mahatma Eye hospital attended the event.
