IIM-A, Motilal Oswal host equity investing contest

The‘Motilal Oswal Think Equity, Think QGLP Contest’ rewards stock-picking skills

To educate the young generation on equity and process-based equity investing, Motilal Oswal Asset Management Company (MOAMC) has partnered with The Red Brick Summit, the flagship Annual Symposium of IIM Ahmedabad to create a unique initiative — the ‘Motilal Oswal Think Equity Think QGLP Contest’.

The contest provides a forum for B-school students to present their stock-picking skills to a panel and win attractive cash prizes.

Quality, growth, longevity

As part of the contest, participants from various business schools need to familiarise themselves with the QGLP stock-picking methodology, that takes into consideration Quality, Growth and Longevity at reasonable Price. Using the method, contestants must pick a stock, giving a rationale for their choice in the prescribed format. The entries will be shortlisted by senior fund managers at MOAMC and the top 10 entries will be presented at the IIM Ahmedabad Red Brick Summit 2017 to a jury of stock market doyens comprising Raamdeo Agrawal (Chairman, MOAMC), Ramesh Damani (Member of the Bombay Stock Exchange) and Utpal Sheth (CEO and Senior Partner at Rare Group).

The contest is open to all current students of B-schools in India. The last date for receiving entries is September 7. The top three investing ideas picked by the panel will get prize money of ₹5 lakh, ₹3 lakh and ₹1 lakh respectively

Stock selection

Speaking about the contest Raamdeo Agrawal, Chairman MOAMC, said: “My investment journey has taken me from ₹0 to ₹1,000 crores in 30 years. But the journey may be much shorter and much more exciting if you adopt the QGLP stock-selection methodology, which took me 30 years to formulate. ‘The Motilal Oswal Think Equity, Think QGLP Contest’, under the aegis of The Red Summit, IIM Ahmedabad is a great opportunity for students to test their QGLP skills and kick-start their investing journey.”

Talking about the euphoria on this innovative contest, Ms Garima Singh, Corporate Communications IIMA said, “This is singularly the biggest stock pitch challenge in the country, and comparable to the biggest in the world. The Red Brick Summit is proud and excited to host an event of this calibre among a bouquet of 25 other business competitions and workshops.”
