IIM-A readies itself for Open Day

The programme aims at making school-going children experience life at the institute

General Management and Leadership Cell (GMLC) of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, is all set to host the third edition of its annual flagship event, Open Day at IIM-A on November 26. The programme aims at making school-going children experience life at the institute.

Participants of the event will spend a day at the campus, and sessions on career planning and personality development will be organised for the attendees. The history and significance of IIM-A too will be explained to them through campus tours, that will be conducted by the students of IIM-A.

For this edition of the event, GMLC is planning to conduct events based on the theme, ‘learning through innovation’. Prof Rakesh Basant, Dean — Alumni and External Relations and Prof Ankur Sarin, Professor — Public Systems Group, along with other faculty members, are expected to attend the event, that may see a participation of over 500 school children from the city. More than 20 IIM-A students of PGP programme are working to ensure hassle-free execution of the event.

Himanshu Singh, coordinator of GMLC, said, “Open Day is our annual community outreach event started two years ago at the prodding of our former Director, Prof Ashish Nanda. Since then, the programme has been only growing.”

Ishita Solanki, manager of Global Partnerships and Corporate Affairs, who has been instrumental in the event since its inception, added, “Since its inception, the Open Day event has received a warm response from the local community. It is one of the most looked-forwar-to events as we get to engage with the future leaders and understand their aspirations.”

Last year’s Open Day was attended by over 550 children of Classes 9, 10, 11 and 12 from various schools of Ahmedabad. The career planning session last year was held at RJM Auditorium and saw the participation of Prof Errol D’Souza, Director-In-Charge and Prof Rakesh Basant.
