IIM-B concludes summer placement season

BCG makes highest number of offers

The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B) concluded a successful summer placement season on November 3, for the PGP class of 2015-17. The programme witnessed participation of 410 students, as well as some of the top recruiters across all sectors, with more than 30 firms hiring from the institute for the very first time.

IIM Bangalore IIM-B is simultaneously hosting the mentorship and summer recruitment process for IIM Visakhapatnam’s PGP Class of 2015-2017, with approximately 60 per cent of applicants already placed.

‘Dream Company’

For the first time in IIM-B’s placement season, the introduction of the ‘Dream Company choice’ was its major highlight. Recruiters such as Tata Administrative Services, Aditya Birla Group, P&G, ITC, Hindustan Unilever were chosen by students with offers as their ‘dream company’.

This year, the programme witnessed the participation of more than 150 companies, which came to hire students for summer stints in roles and departments such as consulting, investment banking, markets, corporate banking, sales and marketing, business leadership, product management, operations, category management, and general management. Some of the companies making their first visits to the institute included Lenovo, LightBox Ventures, Texas Instruments, Myntra, Uber, Walmart Labs and Novartis, among others. Temasek Holdings renewed hiring from IIM Bangalore again after a gap of more than five years.

IIMB played host to major international banks such as Goldman Sachs, HSBC, Barclays, JP Morgan, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank, Citibank, Development Bank of Singapore and Standard Chartered on the first day. A host of Indian banks and financial institutions such as Avendus Capital, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Yes Bank and Edelweiss also made offers.

Highest recruiters - consultancies

The Boston Consulting Group made 22 offers, which was the highest number of offers ever made by the company across Indian campuses. Accenture and McKinsey came a close second and third, with 16 offers and 12 offers respectively. Around 30 per cent of the batch received offers in the consulting sector.

Conglomerates such as Aditya Birla Group, Tata Administrative Services (TAS), Mahindra & Mahindra, Wipro Global, Reliance ADA Capital, Shell, General Electric recruited in significant numbers for leadership and general management roles. Aditya Birla Group was the highest recruiter, with 13 offers.

Offers from other sectors

Students were also extended offers in the sales and marketing department by major consumer goods and services firms. Recruiters in this category were Mondelez, Asian Paints, Hindustan Unilever, Phillips, Coca Cola, ITC, Johnson & Johnson, Pepsi, and Wipro Consumer Care, among others.

The e-commerce space also saw heightened interest with Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal, Hopscotch, Uber, Myntra, Ola Cabs, and Quikr, among others participating in the summer recruitment programme.

Commenting on the occasion, Prof Ganesh Prabhu, Chairperson, Career Development Services at IIM-B, said: “The summer placement programme was very well received by the recruiters. Many of them ended up doubling their usual number of offers based on the talent pool available.”
