The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore has announced its new digital learning initiative - a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC)-based online certificate series - ‘Fundamentals of Business Management.’
The course series will include six business and management MOOCs: Introduction to People Management, Introduction to Operations Management, Introduction to Accounting – 1, Introduction to Corporate Finance, Introduction to Business Strategy, and Introduction to Marketing Essentials.
IIM Bangalore, which was ranked 62nd on the Financial Times Global MBA rankings recently, is among the first few B-schools in the world to offer such a MOOC-based series of core management courses.
“IIM Bangalore is leveraging the massive scale and reach of MOOCs to provide basic business skills to everyone who needs them. To make our country's grand vision of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’ a reality, education is key. Our MOOCs programme, especially the Fundamentals of Business Management, will bring high quality management education and a lifelong learning opportunity for many who would otherwise have been unable to access a top management school,” said Sushil Vachani, IIMB Director, in a statement.
The MOOCs will be delivered through the edX platform over the next few months, and will offer learners the opportunity to study management concepts from highly rated IIM faculty in a completely open, online mode.
To increase the reach of these courses IIMB will also make these courses available in Hindi.
“Our learners have told us that business and management courses are some of the most in-demand subjects they seek to leverage edX MOOCs for increasing the skills and knowledge so central to succeeding in their careers,” said the edX CEO and MIT Professor Anant Agarwal. “IIMB’s new XSeries Program will provide learners around the world an important credential to improve their job and career prospects.”
