IIMB’s Sammantran 2015 to be held on November 1

Events to be based on the theme of tapping the potential of India’s unorganised sector

IIM Bangalore’s Executive Post Graduate Programme is all set to organise Sammantran, its flagship national fest for MBA students and corporate India, on November 1, 2015. The IIMB campus will host corporates, policy advocates, and students of premier business schools from across the country.

Fifty-five per cent of India’s $1.85-trillion economy is informal, and more than 90 per cent of the total workforce, engaged in this informal sector. Is this a humongous challenge, or a big opportunity? In line with this, the theme of Sammantran 2015 is “India Unorganised — Tapping the Untapped Potential”.

As Aravind Ganesan, a core member of the Sammantran organising committee from EPGP said: “Our theme for this year is very relevant. The start-up culture in India has had an immense concentration on aggregating services;but to create more such success stories, a lot of work needs to be done in terms of skills, finance, education, and technology. Sammantran, which means a confluence of ideas, would play a pioneering role in bringing together reputed speakers, who will provide on-the-ground perspectives of what is being done and what more needs to be done. The best brains of the country will provide solutions to complex problems as part of case competitions. The future of our country depends on unlocking the huge talent and skills that lie waiting to be explored. Sammantran just attempts to take a small step towards it.”

Speakers

The keynote address will be delivered by Rajni Mishra, Chief General Manager, SBI. Sumit Ganguli from Gavs Infotech will speak about the role of digitisation, while. Meena Ragunathan, from GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, will give her perspectives on skill development and Abhijit Ray, from Unitus Capital, will provide insights on financing in small businesses.

A distinguished panel comprising of speakers such as PC Mustafa, CEO iD Foods and corporate veterans like Dr Debolina Dutta, and Praveen Khandelwal, National General Secretary, Confederation of All India Traders, will give their thoughts on the enormous opportunity that organising the unorganised sector presents.

Nimriti and Abhyas

Along with the talks, Nirmiti, Sammantran’s business hackathon, aims to solve a burning issue one of India’s largest banks faces on dealing with the unorganised sector by pitching the student community’s fresh perspective and out of the box thinking against corporates’ experience.

Apart from that, Abhyas, Sammantran’s flagship case study competition, will be set around upcoming developments, public policy and disruptive business models. This case study competition is designed to provide innovative ideas to marry Digital India and Informal India.

With events designed to stimulate creativity, provide thought provoking insights on real-time scenarios, and loads of fun, Sammantran 2015 promises to feed curiosity.
