India-Japan study centre at IIM-B to offer special programme

The programme aims to help professionals connect with peers from the Japanese business ecosystem

The first edition of the Business and Operations Management – Japan programme, designed by the India-Japan Study Centre is all set to be launched on September 24 at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) campus.

It is a general management programme that offers executives an opportunity to gain management expertise. It also provides a platform for them to connect with like-minded professionals from the Japanese business ecosystem.

The participants will attend five modules, which will each last for one week, spread over a five-month period. As a part of the curriculum, the programme participants have an immersion module in Japan. During their study trip to Japan, they will also visit various industries and agencies to understand the competitiveness of the industry there.

It is an intensive programme and will have a comprehensive project running through the duration. The programme directors are Prof Avinash Mulky, faculty from the Marketing area, and Prof Krishna Sundar, faculty from the Production and Operations Management area at IIM-B. Around 40 participants will be admitted into the programme.

IIM-B Director Professor G Raghuram said that the the India-Japan Study Centre was established to learn best practices from Japan. “The Business and Operations Management–Japan programme has been designed keeping in mind the mission of the India-Japan Study centre — that is, to enhance economic understanding between the two countries through research, teaching and policy outreach efforts,” he said.

The programme aims to attract applications from a highly competent pool of aspirants from various sections of the industry. In particular, executives working in Japanese companies in India, and executives from Indian companies with a focus on Japan will benefit from this programme.
