Indian test-taking centre owners struggle for test relevance and cheating threats

46% of the respondents are concerned about candidates cheating in exams

Professional exam providers in India are struggling to maintain the relevance of their exams — and the menace of cheating — according to a new study by Pearson VUE and IMRB

Around 43 per cent of the test owners face challenges in developing new assessment content, and 38 per cent find it difficult to maintain the relevance of the assessment test, says the study.

The report - Improving India’s exam standards: Challenges facing test owners , also found that 46 per cent of the respondents are concerned that candidates are cheating in exams, and about one-third are concerned with candidate impersonation.

There is also concern about test paper leakage (39 per cent), which is a problem associated with pen-and-paper rather than computer-based testing (CBT).

Of the 47 per cent test owners who currently use pen-and-paper over a third (33 per cent) are likely to move to CBT in the near future. Also, 81 per cent test owners believe that there is no alternative to CBT that is more reliable, the report reveals.

The study takes into account inputs of senior managers from 100 exam-owning companies and institutions in the medical, legal, finance, IT and higher education sectors.
