International marketing conference at IMI-K sees participation from global academics

Professor Russell Belk from York University delivered the keynote address

International Management Institute, Kolkata hosted the two-day international marketing conference MARCON 2017 from December 18-20. The conference brought about academic and managerial perspectives on the theme of ‘Marketisation and Marketing in Emerging Markets’.

The opening keynote address of the conference was delivered by Professor Russell Belk, Krafts Food Chair in Marketing, Schulich School of Business, York University, Toronto, Canada. He deliberated on the emerging consumer culture theory and spoke in specific on consumer masks and bluffs. A series of technical sessions followed the inaugural key note address. Dr. Zeng Xiangyu and Liu Jiawei from the Institute of South Asian Studies, Sichuan University also presented an informative and insightful talk on “China-Nepal-India Economic Corridor”.

Two workshops on ‘Thoughts and Methods in Critical Marketing’ by Professor Russell Belk, and ‘Research Trends and Publication in Marketing’ by Dr. Suman Basu Roy, Professor (Marketing), University of Texas, Austin were also part of the two-day conference.

The event witnessed researchers presenting their papers on varying areas of marketisation and the emerging markets. The intellectual networking was further complemented by some cultural exuberance with a joyful performance by the famous Baul singers of West Bengal.
