Internship stipends jump by 30% at IIFT

The highest domestic stipend stood at ₹4 lakh for the complete internship duration

The average stipend for summer placements (internships) of Delhi-based Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) has jumped by 30 per cent this year, for a batch of 262 students of the MBA (International Business) programme. The highest domestic stipend offered is ₹4 lakh for complete internship duration.

Who hired where

Conglomerate Tata Group (Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Titan, Tata International and TCS) has emerged as top summer recruiter at the campus, extending a total of 25 offers on campus.

Diverse internship roles were offered in the finance domain with Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan making the highest number of offers. Other top recruiters included Synergy Consulting, Nomura, DBS, GE, Langham Capital, Edelweiss, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, HSBC Bank, and Citi Bank.

FMCG, telecom, pharma and healthcare, e-commerce, consumer durables, media and advertising, apparel retail, automotive, iron and steel manufacturing sectors offered sales and marketing internships. Some of the FMCG firms that offered multiple internships included Marico, Dabur, J&J, GSK, Pidilite, Godrej Consumer Products, Godrej & Boyce, Britannia, L’Oreal, SAB Miller, Hector Beverages and Tolaram Group.

E-commerce a hot choice

The e-commerce sector too hired aggressively from IIFT, with over 20 per cent of the batch opting to intern in the sector. Some of the larger recruiters included Amazon, eBay, Flipkart, GirnarSoft, ShopClues, Zopper, Zovi and PepperTap.

In the operations domain, Global e-Procure (GeP) and Amazon offered internships, with Capgemini Consulting, Cognizant Business Consulting, CEB, Redseer and Actuate Business Consulting, TCS, Wipro too recruiting students.

In the general management domain, Mahindra and Mahindra, Airtel, Shell, Godrej Properties Limited, Hero MotoCorp, TVS Motors and L&T made their presence felt on campus, while technology giants Microsoft, Google, IBM and HP too took interns from the institute. IT/ITeS firms like TCS and Wipro offered a wide gamut of roles.

Around 12 international internships were also given to students for Middle East, Africa, SAARC, Europe and Singapore locations. Big names such as The Big 4 (ABCD) of Trade — ADM, Bunge, Cargill and Louis Dreyfus — found space in the list of companies that hired interns from IIFT. Other trade roles were offered by ITC, Golden-Agri Resources, TATA International, and SMR Group.
