LPU to give cash prize to medal-winning students in Tokyo Olympics

Five MBA students and two BA students will receive ₹10 lakh each

Lovely Professional University Punjab (LPU) has announced a cash prize of ₹70 lakh to seven of its students who were part of the Indian men’s hockey team at the Tokyo Olympics. This is to commemorate the historic bronze medal win of the hockey team after 41 years at the Olympics, defeating Germany by 5-4 in the play-off match.

Seven players of the Indian men’s hockey team at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics include — Hockey team captain Manpreet Singh (MBA), Rupinderpal Singh (MBA), Harmanpal Singh (MBA), Mandeep Singh (BA), Shamsher Singh (MBA), Dilpreet Singh (BA), and Varun Kumar (MBA). Each student would be rewarded with ₹10 lakh each for winning a bronze for the country at the Tokyo Olympics. Overall, 11 students from LPU are representing the nation at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics in wrestling, hockey, athletics, and paraolympics.

Ashok Mittal, Chancellor, Lovely Professional University said, “My heartiest congratulations to the Indian Hockey team for winning the bronze medal in such an intense match against Germany. We are elated and so proud of them for marking this success at the Olympics after 41years.”

He further added, “It gives me immense pleasure that seven out of the sixteen members’ of the team are students of LPU. They have brought significant honour, not just to LPU, but to the entire nation as well. They have set an example for students to take up sports and bring more medals for the country.”
