MDI hosts workshop on role of research

Workshop witnessed participation of more than 70 researchers

MDI Gurgaon recently organised an interactive workshop on the scope and relevance of management research. The workshop addressed the issue of ‘the area of research is indeed imperative for a management professional’. The two disciplines together enable a holistic understanding of how an enterprise can prosper in a dynamic and complex business environment. The workshop witnessed participation of more than 70 researchers.

The workshop was followed by a panel discussion on the topic ‘Emerging Research Methodologies in Management’. Indiana University professors Raj Garg and Mukesh Chaudhry; Sangeeta Goel, Additional Director General of Doordarshan; and Janice L Gogan of Bentley University shared their discerning thoughts on the subject. Prof Garg, while addressing the panel, elaborated on the impact of digital technology on the cross cultural technology in foreign universities.

After a short networking break, the discussion steered towards the topic ‘Implementation of Assurance of Learning (AOL) in Business School’. The presentation was led by Indiana University professors including Suneel Maheshwari, Framarz Byramjee, Chaudhry, and Garg. Finally, the day ended with a session with the theme ‘Contemporary issues on Innovation and Management’.

“As a management institute, we are constantly treading the thin balance between applied and theoretical knowledge. To create a successful manager, we believe that one not only needs to understand what to do in a particular situation but also how exactly. Management research plugs this gap and greatly enhances one’s decision making skills. So, it’s about time we realised its relevance and gave it the importance it deserves,” said M P Jaiswal, Dean of Research & Accreditation.
