MICA introduces a new course on global governance

The course covers broad themes such as governance basics, futuristic leadership, and digital ecosystems

MICA has introduced a new course that will equip students with skills required in a rapidly evolving environment. The course titled ‘Global Governance, Change, and Transformation (GCT),’ designed by MICA Dean Dr Preeti Shroff and MICA alumnus Sukaran Thakur focuses on global change, international relations, the economy, national and international policy frameworks.

Building managers for the post-Covid world

The GCT course covers five broad themes, including the global context of the Covid-19 crisis, governance basics and futuristic leadership, governance sub-sectors, corporate and brand compliance, and digital ecosystems. Sharing her thoughts on the course, Dr Preeti Shroff, Dean, MICA, said, “The new course aims to prepare students for a post-Covid city, nation, and corporate governance. MICA alumni teach sessions on industry approaches in digital and e-commerce governance. Industry and international leaders teach digital and data governance, e-commerce governance, brand compliance, legal compliance. The course learning also emphasises self-governance and sustainability management.”

Speaking in detail, Adjunct Faculty at MICA and MICA alumnus Sukaran Thakur said, “Through this course, MICA has attempted to prepare a future generation of managers who are skilled in theoretical frameworks and practical implementations.

Leveraging digital ecosystems during crises

It will help them tackle a rapidly changing corporate and social ecosystem, the kind that we are witnessing today, and be ready to go ahead.” As part of the course, 169 students from the first-year PGP batch got lessons on how changes and disruptions affect people and the world around them, the role of governance and regulatory mechanisms in coping with the changes, corporate and brand responses, and most importantly, the potential and challenges of leveraging digital ecosystems for managing and communicating during crises.

The course also had speakers from the industry including Abhay Mangaldas, Founder/Director, House of MG; Dr Bhaskar Das, Group President, Republic TV; CD Mitra, Founder and CEO, PipalMajik; Rhea Figueiredo, Marketing Manager, Amazon; and Krishni Miglani, Marketing Manager, Amazon Prime.
