Power packed three days at JAAF Symposium inIIM-A

The symposium on accounting and finance saw a number of academics and scholars attend the do

IIM Ahmedabad, in association with Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance, and Indian School of Business, organised a symposium on accounting and finance from January 5 to 7.

The symposium saw world renowned professors — James Ohlson, Aswath Damodaran, Shyam Sunder, Rajendra Srivastava and Bikki Jaggi deliver powerful talks. Ashish Chauhan, CEO of BSE, also delivered a speech. Principal sponsor of the event was CMIE. Its CEO, Mahesh Vyas, addressed the gathered students.

The orators touched upon several critical issues in accounting and finance research viz. basics of empirical research, valuation, financial reporting, and corporate carbon performance, among other topics. Sage Publications India Pvt. Ltd. also supported the event.

The symposium participants actively debated on several issues relevant to accounting and finance research. A variety of research papers were presented by academics from around the world on topics like executive compensation, corporate disclosure, goods and service tax, internal auditing, audit quality, audit fees and earnings management.

It also provided a wonderful stage for young researchers from India to present and discuss their findings and received feedback on the same. PhD students and faculty members from management institutes across India attended the event, where they talked and networked with speakers, presenters and discussants.

After the completion of the event, Prof Neerav Nagar, one of the managing editors of the symposium, said, “The aim of this symposium was to encourage PhD students and faculty members in India to understand and do innovative and rigorous accounting and finance research. Resultantly, they will be able to publish their research work in top accounting and finance journals and the quality of their teaching will improve.”
