'Purpose, proficiency, passion key to career growth'

TalentEase’s Leo Fernandez, speaking at ICFAI webinar, says life with purpose infuses energy and joy.

There are three key issues which determine one’s career: purpose, proficiency and passion. “Life with a purpose infuses energy and joy and gives you immense job satisfaction,” said Leo Fernandez, CEO and Co-Founder, Talent Ease.

Speaking at ICFAI’s WiseViews interactive webinar, the 29 of the series with business leaders, Fernandez said, “These are the key circles which are interconnected or overlapped with each other. While proficiency carries 3X impact, passion has 5X and purpose has the maximum 10x impact on our lives. Self-motivation can help you find the purpose of life and one can define it by what you give rather than what you get.”

Speaking on the topic ‘Finding Purpose: The Journey from Campus through Career,’ last Friday, Fernandez said, “Values and relationships are the other factors which are pathways to find the purpose. Giving importance to the relationships gives you conviction to go ahead in your career journey. You rarely regret the things you did and not the things you have not tried at all,” Applying the MAD (making a difference) quotient in every step of life also gives you clarity in your life, he added.

Fernandez used some interesting anecdotes in his talk to elaborate the points he discussed. He said “When you have found the purpose and the passion in the job you will be pleasantly fatigued and not tired. Making a right choice is best when it is proactive rather than a reactive one.”

Answering a query in the Q & A session, he said that one should always bend towards the pull rather than the push when they are contemplating a switch in their job. “Individual purpose inclined with the organisational purpose will make an ideal combination,” he observed.

The webinar was moderated by Prof. R Prasad, Director - Academic Wing, ICFAI Group and Prof. Sudhakar Rao, Director, Branding, ICFAI Group.

About 250 participants including entrepreneurs, research scholars, working professionals from various parts of the country registered for this webinar which was also live streamed on Facebook.

Leo Fernandez was previously a Partner/Managing Director with Accenture, Singapore, running outsourcing businesses across the Asia Pacific region. He was earlier with Hewitt, India Life and the Tata Group.
