Students of IIM-C’s Analytics PG Diploma bag internships

51 students were placed as interns with a range of tech, FMCG, finance and consulting companies

Internship placements for the second batch (2016-2018) of the Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA), jointly designed by IIM Calcutta, IIT Kharagpur and Indian Statistical Institute, saw encouraging participation from diverse organisations.

The batch, which comprised 51 students with varied professional profiles, attracted recruiters from varied sectors including Fortune 500 companies such as WalmartLabs, American Express, MasterCard, Dunia Finance, Mitsubishi Fuso and TrueNorth.

“With the rising demand for professionals in the analytics space from diverse industries, the recently concluded internship placements for the second batch of PGDBA witnessed encouraging participation from diverse organisations,” said a press statement issued by IIM-C.

In the five months of industrial internship, the students were offered an average monthly stipend of ₹92,447 from the domestic recruiters, with the highest stipend being offered at ₹1,25,000. The international recruiters offered an average monthly stipend of ₹97,804 and the highest stipend was ₹2,45,000.

Sectoral spread

During the internship placements programme, a number of candidates were hired by companies such as AB Inbev, United Health Group and American Express.

Recruiters from the consulting domain included PwC, Ernst & Young and Alvarez & Marsal.

American Express, Yes Bank and MasterCard hired candidates in the financial services domain; while financial research companies such as DE Shaw and Barclays offered internships too.

Interns were hired by technology companies such as WalmartLabs and Amazon, as also by such FMCG companies as ITC and Johnson & Johnson. Students were hired for the roles of data scientist, business analyst, risk analyst and business consultant.

The PGDBA curriculum covers statistics, technology and business — the three pillars of analytics. The programme aims to shape the emerging profession of business analytics by giving the participants an inter-disciplinary educational experience.
