Understanding the trends in finance and economics

The International Conference on Finance and Economics was hosted by LIBA on Friday

Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA) had organised an International Conference on Finance and Economics on Friday, with the theme of ‘Current Trends in Finance and Economics’.

Padma Vibhushan Dr C Rangarajan, Former Governor of Reserve Bank of India, Former Chairman of The Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, and Former Chairman of Twelfth Finance Commission of India, inaugurated the conference.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr Rangarajan talked about the Indian macro-economy, and outlined a picture of the country’s economic history, pre- and post-liberalisation. Stressing upon the growth of the Indian economy, he also highlighted the current issues being faced by the banking sector.

The conference served as a platform for over 75 researchers, academic scholars and industry professional with cross-disciplinary interests, to meet and interact. Spread across two technical sessions, 29 research papers were presented on various topics as part of the conference.

With the changing dynamics of India’s economic growth, the forum also brought into limelight various aspects of emerging finance, business and economic trends that drive social, economic and market transformations in the country.

Fr P Christie SJ, Director of the institute, said “This forum has been curated by LIBA so it helps us update ourselves on the various dynamics of Finance and Economics. It is also a wonderful chance for us to listen to stalwarts like Dr Rangarajan, to have a better understanding of the Indian Economy and the various opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. I am confident that the participating researchers found the conference simulating and challenging.”

Industry veterans such as Somi Hazari (Managing Director of Shosova Group of Companies) and Ravi Varanasi (Chief of Business Development at National Stock Exchange), along with the distinguished management of LIBA, academicians and students were present during the inauguration.
