SRM aims to promote design thinking among students and teachers

The institute signs MoU with Intellect Design Arena Ltd and School of Design Thinking (SoDT)

SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRM IST), Intellect Design Arena Ltd, and School of Design Thinking (SoDT); have designed an MoU to promote design thinking among the students and faculty members at SRM IST.

The collaboration of SRM IST, Intellect and SoDT will help create ‘India’s first-of-its-kind full-fledged design centre’ in an educational institute, the institute said.

Tackle tough challenges

Dr Sandeep Sancheti, Vice Chancellor, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, said: “We are happy to partner with Intellect and School of Design Thinking. We are embracing the principles of transformation by bringing design thinking in our academia. Design thinking would help students hone the skills and literacies highly valued in today’s world, including the ability to tackle tough challenges and thinking outside the box.”

Arun Jain, Chairman and Managing Director, Intellect Design Arena Ltd, said: “This association with SRM IST will help inculcate the tenets of design thinking which will help shape the leaders of tomorrow. Our objective is to elevate the educational institution’s thinking to be at par with the global institutions, in terms of research, latest pedagogy and creating curiosity in the minds of students.”

Dr Anbu Rathinavel, Head and co-founder, School of Design Thinking Pvt Ltd, said: “Design thinking, a problem-solving approach, is a game-changer; a way to get ahead and stand out in a crowd. It helps answer the question ‘why’; and once the reason is found, one is at the cusp of a solution, a breakthrough. The ability to change our viewpoint from our own to that of the user — to visualise, think, and feel what the user is going through is the key to design thinking. Basically, unlearn what we have learnt all these years on problem-solving.”
