Despite all the distress the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) had to take on for the #OscarsSoWhite, efforts and steps have been taken to right what they have been doing wrong. On Wednesday AMPAS had disclosed its incoming class for the year 2016, with 41 per cent of the 683 members being people of colour. This move slightly knocks the 8 per cent of people of colour in the Academy to 11 per cent. A small shift, but definitely in the right direction.
AMPAS has allowed provide room for women in the class as well. As compared to the previous 25 per cent that were already members, 46 per cent of the class to be are female. This new set brings the overall totally to 27 per cent – a step towards equality.
