As youth run from pillar to post seeking jobs after graduation, many find themselves at crossroads unable to decide what next.

Seeking to address this dilemma for fresh MBAs and graduates, T Muralidharan, Chairman, TMI Group, a management consultant and alumnus of IIT-Madras and IIM-Ahmedabad, has come out with a book, An Expert’s Guide to Top 101 Entry Level Jobs which gives an overview of the opportunities in the job market.

It is projected that there will be 2 million new entry-level job vacancies for graduates in the next six years and the book aims to guide such job aspirants.

Published by Rupa, and released by Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, the book serves as a mentor for parents and job seekers, in understanding the vast recruitment market and the opportunities to be tapped.

Muralidharan explains that while IT and IT-ES are the most sought after career options for graduates, job seekers are not aware of other sectors such as pharma and healthcare that are looking for people with their background and skills. Then there are also opportunities in manufacturing, operations, logistics and a number of other areas where recruiters are looking for candidates.

“Having trained more than a lakh people and helped them get jobs, I want to touch a million jobseekers,” he says, advising youth not to focus only on the crowded IT and IT ES sector, where there are indications that there could be lower recruitment.

Muralidharan says, “Over 5 million young people graduate from various educational institutions annually, and over 10 million active job seekers will benefit from the book.” This book is a sequel to An Expert’s Guide to Your Right First Job which was released in February 2015. The book covers 15 industry sectors and various job roles and functional areas in business organisations.

He explains, “Most of the graduates start looking for jobs either shortly before or immediately after graduation. Under extreme placement pressure, most choose the first available job and realise within three months that it is not that job they want to do. There is a desperate need for job counselling on the campuses and every graduate has to make an informed choice.”

Speaking at the book launch, Union Labour Minister Dattatreya said, “India has a big democratic dividend. Recently during my visit to Geneva, where Labour Ministers from 183 countries converged, many of them were keen to know about the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Skill India’ initiatives. They are all very eager to associate with India.”
