IIM-A director says the list will be sent to HRD Ministry “soon”

The Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) on Friday shortlisted three new names for the chairman's post, IIM-A director Ashish Nanda said.

Ashish Nanda, Director, IIMA.

The board had previously recommended three names earlier this year, which had been rejected by then Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Smriti Irani.

The names will soon be sent to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), the IIM-A director added.

The Board of Governors convened on Friday morning, when the search committee had presented three shortlisted names, which the Board then approved.

“All I can say is that they are very good names. The shortlist either has been sent or will be sent soon to the MHRD,” Nanda said here.

Currently the Cadila Healthcare chief Pankaj Patel is heading the Board of Governors of IIM-A as its interim chairman. Nanda refused to divulge the shortlisted names.

Rejected list

The three rejected named included R Seshasayee, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Infosys; Deepak Parekh, Chairman, HDFC; and Pawan Munjal, CMD Hero MotoCorp.

Meanwhile, IIM-A announced its partnership with the TCS Foundation, a not-for-profit arm of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for the restoration and reimagining of the Vikram Sarabhai Library at IIM-A's iconic Louis Kahn Plaza (LKP) into a future-ready knowledge hub for digital learning and collaboration.

TCS announced supporting IIM-A's restoration with a funding of ₹ 20 crore.

Nanda further said that the future-ready library of the institute would provide open and flexible spaces to create an environment of collaboration among students, academics and visitors.
