Shaktikanta Das named new RBI Governor

Appointed for a three-year term

Former Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das on Tuesday has been appointed the new governor of the Reserve Bank of India, a government statement said. He will be the 25th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, succeeding Urjit Patel, who resigned on December 10.

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Shaktikanta Das, IAS Retd. (TN:80), former Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, as Governor, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), for a period of three years,” an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training said here on Tuesday.

Das, who retired as Economic Affairs Secretary in May 2017, has been appointed for a term of three years.
